Nurtured for Nutrients
The emphasis at Sunspot Urban Farm is on the soil. Our practices ensure a healthy and thriving soil microbial community because that in turn ensures that the plants uptake essential nutrients so that our vegetables are nutrient rich.
This gallery shows a few images of the vegetables grown in our soil teeming with life.
We get by with some help from our "little friends"
Just as we nurture the soil community, our urban farm nurtures our human community, developing social bonds as we work together. Children (and their parents) have helped us harvest garlic, beans, and other crops, create soil blocks, plant seeds, and water beds.
Our Interns and Volunteers
Interns work with us for the full growing season. During an internship we try and and cover all aspects associated with operating an urban farm. In addition to interns we have numerous volunteers that pitch in and help with various farm chores. Intern and volunteer presence on the farm makes the work day fun and manageable. To all of you that have helped over the years--please know that we deeply appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to local and sustainable food production. This gallery highlights a few of those wonderful folks with a special thanks to Shauna, Carlos, Cyndi, Natasha, and Tracy.
